About the Public Sector Governance Team

Through our Public Sector Governance team, Adam Smith International is a leading global adviser to clients seeking to improve governance at the heart of government, particularly through public administration reform and reform of public financial management. We operate in some of the world’s most dynamic and challenging places from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe working with some of the world’s foremost technical experts and institutions. About the role

Adam Smith International is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to be based in its Public Sector Governance team in London. The team provides high quality advice globally to governments seeking to enhance governance of the public sector through centre of government reform, civil service reform, anti-corruption, sub-national governance, external accountability and public financial management. We work with government institutions to implement public sector governance projects in some of the world’s most dynamic and challenging countries including Liberia, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and Uganda.

A Senior Manager is expected to deliver advisory and business development opportunities through engaging with our donor and government clients on technical issues, and lead the preparation of technical and financial proposals and expressions of interest. A Senior Manager is also expected to manage complex projects.

The post-holder will be expected to perform the following duties:

» Managing on-going project(s). This will include regular field visits;

» Helping plan for the delivery of major new projects and trouble-shooting on existing projects;

» Building, tracking and maintaining pipeline of upcoming projects;

» Identifying and securing new project opportunities, including large and complex projects. This will involve leading a team for major opportunities;

» Identifying new consultants and building alliances to deliver existing and future work;

» Leading negotiations with associate consultants, development partners and donors.

» Mentoring of team members;

» Cross-support to other geographical and technical teams on ad hoc basis.

About you

You will bring some knowledge and expertise in one of more areas of governance identified above and will have the ability to build effective relationships with clients from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds, and to work effectively in politically sensitive and challenging environments. You will relish working in a team and will be innovative, energetic, positive, and genuinely committed to achieving lasting change in your work. You should be confident and capable in leading business development activities and converting these into new work. You potentially bring established relationships with donor organisations and freelance associates.

Adam Smith International seeks the following skills and experience:

· A post-graduate degree from a top-tier university;

· Relevant government or private sector experience in an area of governance;

· Experience of working in a developing country;

· Enthusiasm and flexibility along with a willingness to travel at short notice and work in developing countries for a significant time;

· Demonstrable experience working in complex and time-pressured contexts;

· Proven ability to identify, develop and win new opportunities;

· Outstanding English written and oral communication skills;

· Excellent inter-personal skills and team-work;

· Strong attention to detail;

· Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio;

· Eligible to work in UK.
